Ret. MSGT Larry D. Dick, 76, passed away on Wednesday July 17, 2024, in Schertz, Texas. Larry was the only child of Catherine and Frank Dick and was born October 4,1967 in Roswell, New Mexico.
Larry graduated from the Barnstable High School in Hyannis, Massachusetts in June of 1965. Afterwards he received his AS in Automotive Technology from the Franklin Institute of Boston Massachusetts.
Larry enlisted in the United States Air Force in December 1967. He completed Basic Training at Amarillo AFB, Texas and completed Tech School at Sheppard AFB.
Larry married his long time love, Winifred MacDowell (Winnie) in April of 1968.
He was then sent out to McConnel AFB in Kansas where he received training on the F105 in preparation for his assignment at Korat Royal Thai AFB, Thailand. There he served as an F105 Crew Chief during the Vietnam War. (November 1968 - December 1969)
Larry made the Air Force his career. He was stationed at many different bases throughout the U. S, Japan, South East Asia and Europe. Larry retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant in 1987.
Larry and Winnie had 2 children together, Larry Jr. (Danny) in 1969 and Wendy in 1972.
Larry was an avid outdoorsman in his youth and his interest for adventure rekindled during his military service tours in Europe.
He and his family participated in volksmarching, going on castle tours, and sight seeing in all the surrounding countries on his days off.
After retiring from the Air Force (1987) he began his second career as a commercial aircraft quality control inspector, working at the Dee Howard Company in San Antonio and continued with each new company that bought the business until he retired in 2012.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Frank, mother Catherine, and daughter Wendy. He is survived by his wife Winnie, and son Danny, Danny's wife Jennifer, their son Anthony and daughter Seraph, Anthony's son Aizen. As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, sister- in laws, including David Karras, his wife Hee Jin and their children Ethan and Jasmine, plus extended family and friends whom Larry was closest to, Dang and Gary Clarke to name just two of his best friends.
Larry's final arrangements have been entrusted to Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas. He will be laid to rest at the Mosswood Cemetery, Cotuit in Cape Cod Massachusetts at a later date.
