Lareta Amy Barkdoll Ennis, age 82, passed peacefully on Friday, December 2nd, 2022. She was born September 29, 1940 in Myrtle Point, Oregon to Kennith and Belva Frakes. In December of 1959, she married Algie H. Ennis who preceded her in death in 2013. Algie and Lareta were a proud Air Force family with two tours to Elmendorf AFB, Anchorage, AK and two tours to Randolph AFB. They’ve lived in Schertz the past 50 years.
Lareta worked for Kimberly-Scott (formerly Sani-Fresh Intl) as a Customer Service Supervisor for 25 years. Even after being retired for 30 years, she stayed in contact and spoke affectionately of many of the people she worked with. She was an amazing cook and her cheesecakes were in demand for every occasion! In recent years, her “German Friends”, “Bunco Girls” and the “Card Playing Group” meant so very much to her. She volunteered with the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo as part of the Hospitality Committee for twenty years and was a volunteer at the Schertz Library for the past ten years. She remained social and active, right up to her death.
Lareta was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sister, Leanna Rice. She is survived by her daughters, Joy (Jonny) Brown and Joni (Tony) Salazar, her grandsons Jake (Casey) Rutherford, Jess Rutherford and fiancé Kori Athas and Dean (Kylie) Salazar. In 2022 she became great grandmother to Sophia Salazar and Owen Rutherford. She was most proud of her family and was grateful for their constant love and support. In addition, she loved her “extended” family members, Carolyn Epperson, The Andersons and the Carpenters. Most of all, she loved chihuahuas, especially Sally and Sandy. The family is forever grateful to Marty and Marguerite Martinez who were wonderful neighbors and friends.
Viewing will take place at Schertz Funeral home on December 21, 2022 from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services with be at Fort Sam Houston on December 22, 2022 at 11 a.m. Contributions in Lareta’s memory may be made to the animal shelter of your choice.
