Kenneth Ray Green, born April 28, 1945, in Brownfield, Texas to parents, Garland and Matilda Webb Green. He died at his home in San Antonio February 6, 2025. He lived in Denver City, Texas enjoying special times with extended family. His father died and his mom married Martin Emert, and they moved to Comanche, Texas. He attended Comanche schools and graduated from Comanche High School.
He joined the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Saratoga and continued his service in the Naval Reserve. He pastored churches in Lampasas and Brownwood, Texas prior to beginning his career in funeral service.
He married Fay Hartsfield in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee on August 1, 1970, and they lived in Waco, Texas. Ken graduated from Tarleton State University, Stephenville, Texas with a bachelor’s degree in education while working as an apprentice funeral director embalmer in Comanche, Texas. He then pursued his dream of becoming a licensed funeral director embalmer and attended Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science. Following graduation, he served four generations of families in Brownwood and Brown County. He was honored as Funeral Director of the Year at the West Texas Chapter of Texas Funeral Directors. He continued as a funeral director in San Antonio to complete a 50-year career in funeral service.
Ken is survived by his wife, Fay Green of San Antonio, Texas, son, Jeffrey Green, Spring, Texas, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his biological father, Garland Green, mother, Matilda Webb Green Emert, and dad, Martin Emert. Also preceding him in death are his brother, Donald Green, sister, Inez Green New, brother-in law, Bobby New, and sister-in-law, Donna Queen.
Services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery and inurnment will follow on February 27, 2025. Memorials may be made in Ken’s honor to an individual’s favorite charity.
