Kenneth C. Fidler, born 4 Oct 1934 in Brooklyn, NY., died, 27 Dec 2019. He was 85 years old. He has resided in Universal City, TX since Oct 2016 and has been an active member of American Legion Post 667 and VFW Post 4676 in Universal City, TX.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents Carlton A. Fidler and Annie Sweeney Fidler of Virginia as well as his wife of 24 years, Patricia J. Fidler of California. Ken has six biological children and three step-children: Cyndi Austin of Michigan, Kenneth Fidler of Virginia, Kym Fidler Jacobson and her husband Joe of Alaska, Jeanni DeSimone Carter of Virginia, Diana Seijas and her husband Richard of Florida, Heather Cadle of Florida, Joyce Cunningham and her husband Stephen of California, Robert Fidler of Nevada, and Christine Duncan and her husband Mitch of Texas along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ken moved to Texas after losing his home in the Erskine Fires, affecting several hundred residents in Lake Isabella, Calif in July 2016. He credits the American Legion for providing him with immediate needs in the aftermath of the fires. Ken volunteered for various organizations throughout his years in California, including serving on the Isabella Lake Patrol as well as the VFW, where he served as an advocate for fellow veterans, assisting them with getting their discharges upgraded, ultimately helping many qualify for much needed benefits through the Veteran's Administration. He continued his volunteer work with veterans after his move to Texas.
Ken was a Marine who joined the service in 1953. He served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars, earning three Purple Hearts during his service. He was always extremely proud of his service and was honored in 2017, being selected as the Grand Marshall for the annual Veteran's Day Parade held in Universal City, TX.
Graveside funeral services will be held on 21 Jan 2020 at 0930 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 3.
