Kenneth Eaglehouse, Sr.

July 10, 1942 — January 2, 2017

Kenneth Dale Eaglehouse, Sr. was born July 10, 1942 in Latrobe, Derry County, PA, where he remained until the movement of his family to Canton, OH in his teen years. Ken entered the Air Force on November 2, 1960. While in the service of our country, he met Dorotha (Dottie) Wise, they married on July 20, 1963. Upon honorably discharged, they returned home to Canton, OH. There, they raised two children Ken, Jr. and Lori. He worked many years at Dyneer Corp, manufacturing heavy equipment parts. The joy of his life was being able to be there for his children as they participated in various sports teams. He almost never missed an event. When the economy in Ohio was hit hard in 1985, he took the bold move to relocate his family to Texas and start anew. He began work as a contractor for the Department of Defense, where he painted aircraft at Randolph AFB until he retired from civil service in 2003. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and bowler; all hobbies he has passed his love for to his children and grandchildren. He loved taking his son and daughter hunting and fishing. He would later travel to Minnesota to catch deer season when his son lived there. Ken's grandchildren were the light of his life. Whenever possible, you'd see him in the stands, or even coaching their sports teams, especially baseball and softball. He loved watching his grandsons swing for the fence. He had taught them all to fish, bowl, and hunt. He passed along his many passions such as restoring cars and tending to his garden. They all knew their Grandpa was one of a kind. Later, when he was unable to be out in the heat, he'd often attend his granddaughter's bowling events, which meant the world to her. His grandchildren knew the depth of his love for them. Ken became a regular at Bussey's Flea Market on Saturday mornings where he would visit his favorite vendors and friends. He also enjoyed and attended various Bingo halls in the area. He is preceded in death by his parents Betty Anderson Berkmyer, Joseph Eaglehouse, and stepfather Michael Berkmyer. Ken Sr. leaves behind a wife Dottie, son Ken Jr. (Colette), and daughter Lori (Dr. Glenn) Swaney, all of them of the Schertz- Cibolo area; 6 grandchildren Jessica Perales (Rene), Matt and Megan Eaglehouse, Spencer and Carter Arispe, and Ian Swaney; and 2 great- grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Grace (Jeff) Cook and Dorothy Santimarino; brother, Tom (Jill) Berkmyer as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside service will take place on January 20, 2017, 1:00PM, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
