Kenneth Benham, Sr.

Kenneth N. Benham, Sr. passed away at home on Thursday, September 8, 2011 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Mary and their 4 children, Kenny, Rhianna, Matt and Missy. Services will be held at Schertz Funeral Home on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00PM with graveside services to follow at Hill Country Memorial Gardens, Spring Branch, TX. Kenneth was born to Clyde and Mary Etta Benham, May 12, 1931 in Stamford, Texas. His family owned a Dairy in Hamlin, Texas. Kenneth married Mary in Anson, Texas on May 30, 1953. Kenneth was an awesome husband, brother, uncle, father and Pawpaw. He served as a deacon in the Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher. He coached all of his children in baseball, softball and coached one Powder Puff football game. Kenneth served 4 years in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He loved to hunt, fish and play golf. He taught his grandson, Chuck to play golf and at the age of 8, Chuck beat his Pawpaw. Kenneth taught his children to hunt, fish, water ski, ride motorcycles and play all sports. He was a great "plumber" and taught many that trade. He belonged to the National Rifleman Association. He was also a Lifetime member of the American Quarter Horse Association. He was a professional PRCA Rodeo Cowboy. He also was a certified scuba diver and also built and raced cars. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters and 2 of his 3 brothers. Survivors include: his wife of 58 1/2 years, Mary Lee Benham; children, Kenneth and Carolyn Benham, Rhianna Stewart, Matt and Lori Benham, Missy and Bobby Davis; grandchildren, Chuck and Alicia Stewart, Jason and Mindy Benham, Joshua Benham, Ashley and Guillaume Duret, Casey and Nick Meadows, Leigh and Andy Curry, April Benham, Alix Benham, Rachel Davis; great-grandchildren, Azrielle, Riley and Randall Benham, Austin, Chase and Ainslee Stewart and Skylar Meadows and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was loved and adored by his family and friends and will be truly missed.
