Kayla Gottardy

One year old Kayla Rae Gottardy was granted angel wings unexpectedly on April 30, 2011, in San Antonio, TX. Kayla was born on April 15, 2010, and lived in Bergheim, TX with her parents, Dwayne and Melissa (Missy) Gottardy. Kayla was born with a very special heart and underwent numerous medical procedures during her short life. She spent extensive periods of time at Methodist Childrens Hospital in San Antonio, where she was cared for by passionate nurses and physicians. Many of the staff took a special interest in Kayla and the family is grateful for the compassionate care Kayla received. The family would especially like to thank Dr. Mary Porisch, Dr. John Kupferschmid, and Dr. Jorge Guerrero, all of whom took extraordinary loving care of Kayla. Kayla is preceded in death by her great-grandparents: Harry and Mary Spahn; Leonard and Louise Gottardy; Anton and Magdalena Schroeder; and Santos and Guadalupe Barraza. In addition to her parents, Kayla is survived by Grandparents- Richard and Barbara Gottardy of Bulverde, TX, Chuck and Bernice Barraza of Corpus Christi, TX; her Uncles/Aunts " Carl and Debbie Michalik of Pflugerville, TX, Scott and Julie Barraza of Sandia, TX, and her cousins " Jordan Michalik, Lucas Barraza, and Grace Barraza. Though her stay with us was cut short, she has left us many memories we can still cherish. Kayla learned to play patty-cake, wave bye-bye, and show you her two bottom teeth by pointing to them. She was Daddys Girl and her first and only word was da-da. She loved touch-and-feel books, any toy that made noise or lit up, and singing the alphabet song to her would soothe her when she got fussy. We miss her greatly and our hearts are broken. One year and two weeks was not enough time for Kayla to share all the love in her heart. While her time was short, yours is still ongoing. Recognize this and share your love with others. Although Kayla had a complex heart, she possessed strength and perseverance. With her courage she led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. Through her teachings about life, we were able to create wonderful memories and it has been a privilege to be her parents. Visitation will be held May 4th, 2011, from 6:00pm " 8:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 F.M. 3009, Schertz, TX. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Msgr. James Janish on May 5th at 10:00am, St. Joseph Catholic Church " Honey Creek, Spring Branch, TX. Interment will follow at St. Joseph-Honey Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Jordan Michalik, Scott Barraza, Kenneth Gottardy, and Patrick Ginnelly; Lucas Barraza and Grace Barraza will serve as honorary pall bearers.
