Kay Hicks

February 2, 1945 — May 12, 2021

Kay C Hicks, 76, went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 12, 2021 of Cancer at Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas. She was born in Decatur, Texas but raised in Greenwood, Texas. The second daughter of  Edgar A. Clark and Winnie Lee (Baten) Clark on February 2, 1945 as the third child of six children.

Kay graduated from Slidell High School in Slidell, Texas in 1963 after having a successful High School Basketball Career that included winning the Texas UIL Girls Class B State Championship in 1963 and selected as an All-State player. She was then also selected and voted to play on the Texas All-Star Team, which was made up of all Classes, B through 4A classifications which at the time No Girl had ever been selected from Wise County.  After Graduation She went to work for the Local Telephone Company and this helped lead her to meeting her Husband, Melvin G. Hicks. They were Married September 16, 1964 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  They Celebrated 56 years of Marriage this past September. They began their married life in Decatur, Texas but life and Melvin's work led them to several moves that eventually landed them in the San Antonio area and finally Cibolo, Texas on September 29, 1986.

Kay was blessed with Four Children, Sonja L (Hicks) Grissom, 55, Jessica A Hicks, 54, and spouse Henry, Joel W. Hicks, 52, & Gabe S. Hicks, 50 & wife Ashley,  along with their “Special Daughter” Rachel (Hicks) Woody, 38 & husband Spencer. She was also Blessed with five more Grandchildren,  Lindsey L (Shepherd) Calhoun, 33 & Husband Chris, Matthew J Mosquesda, 29, Joshua A. Mosqueda, 26, Cody A. Hicks, 25, & Jayden T Hicks, 17. Along with 6 Great  Granddaughters, Monica M.  Mosquesda, 12, Lydiah F. Woody, 11, Peyton L. Calhoun, 10, Kylie R.Calhoun, 9, Lilly S. Woody, 8 and Violet N. Calhoun, 13.  She also leaves behind her older sister Shirley (Clark) Fortenberry, 81 & husband Neal, And younger Sisters, Joyce (Clark) Stevens, 70 & husband Larry, and Janice (Clark) Simmons, 70 & husband Tom, along with many Nieces and Nephews, Cousins and Friends whom she loved dearly.

Kay was preceded in Death by her parents, Edgar & Winnie Clark, in-laws, Archie & Josephine Hicks, her brother, Gary Clark, Sister JoAnn Clark Blackwood, Great-Granddaughter Promise E. Mosquesda.

Kay had a fierce love for Our Lord and knew that she would greet him with open arms. She also loved her family fiercely and devoted her life to each and everyone of them. Her Husband, Children, Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren of whom she lived each and everyday for. She devoted her life to raising her family and always, even till the very end showing each and every one of them how much she loved and cared for them. She leaves behind an amazing Legacy of Love and devotion to her family and God.

Her Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Everyday Christian Fellowship Church at 2pm in Cibolo, Texas.  Followed by a Family & Friends Graveside Service at the Greenwood Cemetery, in Greenwood, Texas on Monday, May 24, 2021 at 1pm.

If you so choose, in lieu of flowers the family says you may make a Donation in her name to The National Cancer Society.
