, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, was born November 9, 1924 to Oscar and Amanda Culver in Almond, Wisconsin. She passed away September 6, 2017 at the age of 92. Kathryn's 6th great grandfather, Edward Culver came to America in 1636 and was one of the founders of Dedham, Massachusetts. Kathryn's mother, Amanda Swenson Culver, emigrated from Sweden with her family in 1880. Kathryn graduated from Almond High School where she excelled in both playing the clarinet and singing in the choir. During World War II, she learned to knit from the American Red Cross and sent many knitted caps to soldiers overseas. She graduated from Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois in 1946. She worked as a nurse in Wausau, Wisconsin then Chicago, Illinois and lastly in Madison, Wisconsin. During her nursing career, she worked on the concept that later became the post-surgical recovery room. While in Madison she met Dr. Charles G.
Spivey
Jr. They married on April 5, 1952 in Wautoma, Wisconsin. Kathryn was a member of Marvin United Methodist Church and the Willowbrook Ladies Golf Association in Tyler, Texas. Kathryn was an accomplished artist whose oil paintings won several awards in local art competitions. She worked hard raising her children and made every house a home in multiple locations including Virginia, South Carolina, Colorado, Illinois, France, Germany, and Texas. She routinely cooked exquisite meals on a budget that kept up even with the appetites of three teenagers. She is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Charles G.

, Jr.; parents Oscar and Amanda Culver; brothers Lifelet Culver and wives Evelyn and Marian; Clair Culver and wife Lauretta; Gordon Culver and wife Mary Jane; sisters Vivian Culver, and Charlotte Yates and husband Paul. Kathryn is survived by her sons John

of Helotes, Texas; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 14, 2017 at Schertz United Methodist Church at 7:30am with a Funeral Service at 8:00am. Interment will follow immediately at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Methodist Children's Home in Waco, Texas or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
