Katherine Gawthrop

February 14, 1949 — January 14, 2022

Katherine (Kathy) L Gawthrop, 72, beloved wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma left to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, 14 January 2022. From Schertz Texas, she was surrounded by family at the time of her passing after a brief struggle with the COVID pneumonia disease.

Kathy loved her family with all her heart. Born a Valentine baby, on 14 February 1949, in Blytheville Arkansas to Jimmy and Aretta (Vernnon) Weir. Her school years in Blytheville found her graduating high school in 1967, and moving on with life and employment at the Exchange Service at Sheppard AFB near Wichita Falls Texas. April 1974, Kathy married Terry and in June they moved to Robins AFB, GA staying there until the summer 1977. Their next assignment was to Sembach AB Germany where a six year stay saw them traveling and visiting a number of European countries and even Kathy playing softball for a short period of time. Kathy continued to work for the base exchange service at Sembach AB. Upon returning to the states the summer of 1983 with four children in tow, they were assigned to Randolph AFB and eventually Kathy was picked up in Civil Service until retirement in 1992. However “retirement” was a lifestyle she wasn’t ready to grasp as she successfully ventured into retail sales with several businesses making use of her interior decorating skills and her love of her “bling”. Kathy was deeply involved with her church, not only singing but serving in many ways. In 2000 Kathy and Terry served on a 3 week mission trip to South Africa. Her decorating skills were also put to good use throughout the years but especially the Christmas and Easter displays. Kathy’s love of singing found her in the church praise team for a number of years and also enjoyed singing at different venues. Kathy and Terry traveled to various churches in west and south Texas sharing Southern Gospel Music. Their love of that music was paramount in them co-hosting a radio program, The Gospel Train, on KDRY. Kathy loved her Jesus sharing Him through her love and actions.

Kathy and Terry were married nearly 48 years and had four beautiful daughters; Daughter Pamela A Ross of Friendswood Texas; Son-in-Law Kevin Ross, Grandson Jeremy Ross (deceased), Grandson Nicholas and his wife Audrey of Bauxite, AR, Daughter Deborah M Paniagua of Schertz; Son-in-Law Eber Paniagua, Grandson Corey Gawthrop of San Antonio, Great-grandson Corey J Gawthrop Jr., Great-grandson Cashton A Gawthrop, Granddaughter Lisa Kellum of San Antonio, Grandson Layne Kellum, Great-grandson Davien McCumber, Great-grandson Tytus Kellum, Granddaughter Kristina Paniagua, Grandson Jacob Paniagua, Daughter Kristie L Barnes of San Antonio; Grandson Jacob Barnes, Leslie N Gawthrop of Schertz; Granddaughter Kayla Gawthrop, Grandson Joshua Gawthrop, Brother-in-Law Daniel Gawthrop and his wife Jane of Twin Falls, ID, Sister-in-Law Jerri Murtishaw of Ft Collins, CO and numerous nieces and nephews as well as other relatives scattered across the country.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents Jimmy and Aretta Weir of Texas; Terry’s parents Roy and Billie Gawthrop of Loveland, CO and grandson Jeremy Ross of Niceville, FL.
