Katherine Fedor

September 3, 1937 — April 21, 2019

Katherine LaGwen Fedor, a native Texan and resident of Cibolo, died at home on Easter Sunday, April 21st, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Taylor, Texas, Katherine grew up in Granger with her six siblings. She came from humble beginnings, learning how to work hard and putting herself through nursing school. She obtained her R.N. degree from the Shannon School of Nursing at San Angelo College, where she met her future husband Stephen Fedor, who she fell in love with in an instant and adored throughout their long life together. Katherine was a brave and adventurous woman who took life on its terms; she didn't complain and met each opportunity with a joyful and positive attitude. Katherine traveled the world raising a family, often packing up her four young kids on her own to move thousands of miles away to foreign countries and new adventures. She was a healer who saved many lives as a nurse, always providing care and comfort to those in need. Everyone was welcome in her home, whether they were family, friends, neighbors or friends of her kids who she treated like her own. Katherine was a terrific mother, chaperoning school trips as the nurse, carting them around to their numerous activities, and always making sure they felt loved. She adored her grandchildren, and she was thrilled to attend every graduation, game, special event or wedding that she could. Before she became a wanderer of the road, she was an avid gardener who created beautiful and tasty gardens. She loved traveling in the RV with Steve, seeing all parts of the US, making new friends, and meeting up with old friends on the road to eat, talk and play games. Two of their favorite spots to visit were the USAF Academy in Colorado Springs and the Balloon Festival in Albuquerque. While living in Georgetown, Texas, Katherine attended a beginner's quilting class with one of her daughters and immediately took to it. She became an avid and talented quilter, and she enjoyed the process from beginning to end when she could see the look of joy on the recipient of her latest quilt. She met wonderful friends through quilting and valued the time she spent with them at their meetings, luncheons and quilt retreats. Katherine was the heart and soul of her family and home, and she loved her family with all of her being. She will be missed by everyone whose path she crossed and life she touched. She was preceded in death by her husband Steve. She is survived by her loving children Stephen R. Fedor (and wife Rhonda), Tyra K. Peterson, Andrea Cowan (and husband Kevin), and Rosalie Bair, her grandchildren Brandon Fedor, David Peterson II, Kaelan Cowan Chapman, Mackenzie Cowan, Emma Bair, and Natalie Bair, her sister Faye Neathery (and husband Jim) and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. We will celebrate her life on Friday, May 10, 2019. Visitation will be held at Schertz Funeral Home starting at 10:00am and followed by her memorial service at 11:30am. The procession to Fort Sam National Cemetery will follow immediately after the service. We are on military time so the Interment Service will start promptly at 1:30pm. Please join us for lunch, share memories, and celebrate the amazing life of our beloved Katherine at La Cabana Restaurant, 170 Buffalo Place, Cibolo, Texas.

Memorial gifts may be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
