Karla Burge
February 19, 1950 — September 12, 2015
Karla A. Burge passed away on September 12, 2015 at the age of 65. Karla graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, Port Arthur, TX in 1968 and graduated from University of Texas in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy. Karla was employed with San Antonio Independent School District for 17 1/2 years as a Physical Therapist. She was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Gideons Auxillary, and a volunteer for Special Olympics. Karla also worked part-time for the Baptist Hospital System as a Physical Therapist. In 1975 she married the love of her life Gordon Burge. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Universal City Church, where she taught Pre-K for the First Baptist Academy. Karla had many hobbies, sewing, arts and crafts fairs, cake decorating, and traveling. She loved to travel and spent her summers visiting her grandsons wherever they were stationed. Karla is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Gordon Burge, Converse, TX.; daughters, Stephanie A. Layug and husband, Joselito, Jessica E. Burge, Converse, TX; grandchildren, Nathaniel Layug and Zachary Layug. A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 5:00PM - 9:00PM at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 7:00PM at the First Baptist Church of Universal City with Pastor David Lindow officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00PM on Tuesday September 22, 2015 at Blake Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, San Antonio Northeast Camp, P.O. Box 2192, Universal City, Texas 78148-1192
