Judith Quintana

January 29, 1944 — January 27, 2018

Judith "Judie" Ann Quintana , 73, of New Braunfels, passed away on January 27, 2018 at her home from a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. She was diagnosed a mere 21 days earlier.

Judie was born in Phoenix, AZ on January 29, 1944 to Zoella and David Heron. Always adventurous, she and her younger brother Teddy would borrow a bunch of their father's belts and sneak out to ride the wild horses in the desert. In 1953, her father's work took the family to a copper mine in the jungles of Venezuela. Her youth was spent in a one-room schoolhouse, playing in the jungle, and swimming in the Orinoco River. For high school, Judie left Venezuela and moved to Pennsylvania where she graduated in 1962. After graduation, she moved back to her birthplace of Phoenix, AZ. She met Julio Quintana at Mr. Lucky's and on September 7, 1968, they wed in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. They lived in California until 1974 before they moved to El Salvador. While in El Salvador, she helped adopt orphan children to loving families in the United States and introduced Salvadorans to carrot cake. When the Salvadoran civil war became too dangerous, Judie, Julio, and their 3 children moved to San Antonio, TX. For 13 years Judie and Julio ran a successful manufacturing business before moving to the New Braunfels area. After the death of their daughter Cheryl, Judie raised her grandson Shane. She enrolled him and began working at the New Braunfels Christian Academy. She retired as a bookkeeper after working there for 22 years.

She loved trips to the beach and vacationing with her grandchildren. Always a fan of a mystery, her Kindle library contained hundreds of books. She had a passion for quilting and shopping at Dillards. Judie was an enthusiastic hiker and lifelong exerciser. Her caring composition extended to a plethora of plants and a menagerie of animals. Judie was a selfless, strong, and loving person. She was deeply loved and we were blessed to have her as a wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Judie is survived by her husband of 49 years, Julio C. Quintana , their daughter and spouse Tara and Al Brown, their son and spouse David and Abby Quintana , her brother Ted Heron and family of Austin, TX, and their grandchildren Shane Quintana , Jaxon Brown, Jaclyn Brown, and Jeslyn Brown.

She was preceded in death by her cherished daughter Cheryl Lynn Quintana , who also lost her battle with cancer at age 31.

A graveside service will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery on Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:30 PM, followed by a remembrance gathering at The Club at Garden Ridge to begin about 4:00 PM. Maps and additional details are available at judiequintana.com
