Our beloved mother, Josephine W. Cross, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at the age of 79.
Born on November 11, 1945, in Boligee, Alabama, Josephine graduated from business school and served in the Federal Bureau of Investigation in an administrative role. She also worked as a crossing guard and retired as a corrections officer. Josephine dedicated her life to her family and was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She had a passion for cooking, enjoying good food, watching Westerns and animal shows, cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, listening to uplifting music and sermons, and spending time with her family and friends. Her strength and resilience were evident in everything she did, and she faced life’s challenges with grace.
She is preceded in death by Armanda Hamilton Taylor, William W. Taylor Sr., William W. Taylor Jr., Claudette B. Love, and Tony D. Taylor. She leaves behind her loving children: Anthony (Michele) Walton, Chauntel (Marcus) Simmons, and Daryl G. Cross, who will carry on her legacy of love and resilience. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Delontae Harris, Joshua Simmons, Destinee Cross, Desiree Cross, Jeremiah Simmons, Darius Harris, Kayla Cross, Myana Simmons, and Briana Walton; one great-grandchild, King Josiah Harris; and her siblings Rickey Brown, Ronnie (Louise) Taylor, Olivia (Jeweral) Washington, Elizabeth (Eddie) Gurley, and Bettie (Anthony) Howard, along with a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly.
A celebration of Josephine's life will be held on January 10, 2025, at Schertz Funeral Home & Crematory, located at 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX. We invite all who knew her to join us in honoring her memory and sharing stories of the joy she brought into our lives. For those who are unable to attend, a live stream link will be available.
Though she may be gone from our sight, Josephine will forever remain in our hearts. She was a remarkable woman who filled our lives with love, laughter, and warmth. Rest in peace, dear mother. You will be forever missed and beloved.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of his return. And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing." ~ 2 Timothy 4:7-8
