Joseph B. Porter, age 79, passed away peacefully at his home in Schertz, Texas on Thursday, August 4th. Joe was born in Providence, Rhode Island on October 31st, 1942 to Benjamin Porter and Helen Pendergast. After graduating from high school, he joined the Air Force on August 10, 1960. He was assigned to several bases in the United States, and in Germany, France, and Thailand. He was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant in 1985. He retired at Randolph Air Force Base on December 1st, 1987. He met his wife, Martha Clouser, at Wiesbaden Air Base in Germany and they married in Basel, Switzerland. Joe was a very avid sports fan, always supporting his Cowboys, Red Sox, and Celtics. He spent many years in BVYA working with children, coaching basketball, baseball, and was a little league commissioner. He is survived by his wife Martha, son Joe, daughter Liz Adair (Artie), son Matthew (Jill), grandchildren Payton Quarterman, Fayeth, and Graycee. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughters Catherine and Deborah, and grandson Desmond Oliver.
Visitation and Rosary will be on Sunday, August 28th between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Rosary will be at 5:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be Monday, August 29 at 11:30 am at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, which will be followed by a reception at 93 Robert Stevens Dr. Schertz, Texas. Interment will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery the following day. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to a charity of your choice.
