Jose Guillen

October 22, 1934 — October 2, 2019

Jose (Joe) Edgardo Guillen, long-time resident of Cibolo, TX, passed away peacefully at age 84 Wednesday, October 2, 2019.

Jose immigrated to the United States from El Salvador in 1953, exploring and working on the west coast, ultimately being drafted into the US Army in 1954.  Jose served in South Korea until 1956. Following his return stateside, Jose enlisted in the US Air Force, serving admirably until his retirement as Master Sergeant in 1978. Thereafter, Jose continued his education, earning a B.A. in Finance and a M.S. in Business Administration, while concurrently serving in the Civil Service from 1978 through 2000. In the Civil Service, Jose traveled domestically and internationally to improve operational efficiencies in military operations, in the role of Chief Manpower Supervisor based out of Fort Sam Houston, Headquarters of the Army Medical Command.

In 1960, Jose realized the dream of a lifetime, marrying his beautiful wife Amelia Aracely, and soon thereafter creating their new family with four children. As a family, they traveled to and lived in many places in the United States and internationally as Jose fulfilled his Air Force and Civil Service responsibilities. In later years, Jose and Amelia enjoyed caring for and spending time with their 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren through their 59 years of marriage.

Jose is survived by his wife Amelia, his children, Aracely and Drew Rankin, Ed and Janet Guillen, Lisa and Rich Manley, Jessica Christensen and fiancé Kenneth Khan, Brendan Christensen. His grandchildren, Lauren Blomgren Josh Harmon, Jon and Rachel Orr, Nicole and Landon Eng, Maddison Smith, Cobie and Jacob Guillen, Andrew and Melissa Dupuis, Thomas and Sarah Manley, Ava, Truman, and Barron Christensen. His great grandchildren Wyatt and Finn Blomgren-Harmon, Felix and Fox Orr, Iliaas and Idris Dupuis

Jose enjoyed a distinguished career in the military, always considering serving his country a great privilege. An extremely patriotic and proud American, Jose loved his country and serving in the military and Civil Service was a central part of his very soul. Those fortunate to know Jose treasured his masterful storytelling, weaving life adventures with charm, class, and laughter, and his worldly intellectually capacity for passionate debate and wisdom sharing, all with a wonderful sense of humor.

A highly principled and proud man, but most of all, Jose considered his family and dear friends his greatest life achievement, as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a treasured friend and colleague to many others. Jose’s positive impact will forever be memorialized in all those he touched, continuing to warm hearts and lives in precious memories, especially in retelling his wonderful stories.
