Johnny Milton Caudill was born December 30,1943 at Randolph AFB and passed peacefully at his home with family by his bedside on May 12, 2018. Johnny spent his early childhood pretending to be a cowboy right off the silver screen along with his first cousin Barry Scheel. The family could not afford horses at the time but Grammy always had calves so the boys quickly figured out how to convince a couple of her calves that they were horses. Trigger a white-faced Hereford and Slickie a black Angus, were bridled with make shift rigging so they could ride the range at Grammy's. The pair hunted and fished along the Cibolo creek as teenagers and did their best to deplete the squirrel and rabbit population along the creek bottom. Grammy was always busy cleaning and cooking whatever the boys brought home including an occasional soft-shell turtle.
Johnny was a hardworking man that was agile as a billie goat whether he was running up and down metal roofs at work or scaling steep river banks in pursuit of big catfish. He also played a little softball in those early years and was known to be able to outrun a blue norther.
Johnny will always be remembered as a strong minded tough character that did things his way with no apologies but he had a heart of gold for his friends and his grandchildren and would never deny anyone in need, ever. Johnny was also probably one of the longest serving altar boys at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in his youth according to his cousin Barry. He will be missed dearly by his wife Shirley Caudill, Daughter Donna and her husband Mike Ulbrich, Grandkids "Sissy Baby girl", Kailey Ulbrich and "Baby Boy", Austin Ulbrich, Sister Connie Griffis and niece and nephew Lorie Mathews and Brandon Wade. Johnny was preceded in death by his dear mother Delrose, sister Mary Dale and nephew Tim House. Johnny will be missed also by a host of other family and friends.
Holy Rosary will be prayed at Our Lady of Perpetual Help catholic church in Selma on Friday May 18, 2018 at 7:30 PM. Burial ceremony will be private. In lieu of flowers the family would be honored if donations to cancer research foundation of your choosing be made in his name.
