John O'Dowd

John R. ODowd of Universal City passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at the age of 81. John was born to Bernard and Esther ODowd on January 14, 1929 in Kansas City, Mo. John is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Gayle; and their three children Marshall and his wife Joanna, Dana and her husband Bill, and Brian; grandchildren, Malcom, Shannon, Grant, Patricia, John, and Claire, and great-grandson Jacob; as well as his brother Jerry and his sister Patsy. John proudly served his country for twenty years in the United States Air Force as a pilot and navigator and completed two tours of duty in Vietnam. While in the Air Force, he graduated from Texas A & M with a degree in meteorology and later served as a weather officer in the USAF. After leaving the Air Force, John became a commissioned peace officer and pilot for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Later, he became a Civil Service contracting and procurement officer at the San Antonio Contracting Center. John really never retired, he just changed jobs. Later in life, he established and was the owner of Absolute Pool Service. John was a hardworking, devoted, and loving family man. He will be greatly missed and in our hearts forever. The family would like to thank Autumn Winds Retirement Lodge in Schertz for the excellent care he received. Graveside services will be Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at 2:45pm at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. A celebration of his life will immediately follow the services at Los Patios.
