John Morris

John E. Morris, 88, Live Oak, Texas a retired Army Sargent First Class, passed away peacefully October 15 th at Pipestone Place in San Antonio, Texas.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara of 63 years; son, John Morris (Robin) of San Antonio; daughters, Susan Blake (Rick) of Annapolis, Maryland and Patricia Morris of San Antonio; grandkids, Grant, Ian and Delaney Morris. John was born and raised in Farmington, West Virginia. His two brothers and sister precede him in death. In 1950, he began a 20+ year career in the Army as a Paratrooper in the elite 187 th Regimental Combat Team. In 1951, John was sent to Korea where he made one of only two combat jumps performed during the war earning him the Paratrooper Gold Star. Over the course of his career, he made 37 jumps earning the Paratrooper's Silver Star insignia. In 1969, John was sent to Vietnam, serving 13 months. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf clusters in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. A fter his military retirement, John and Barbara settled in Live Oak and became active members of Universal City United Methodist Church in 1974, where John was very involved in the United Methodist Men's group. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. We give thanks to God for the long and blessed life of this faithful man.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016, at 10:00 AM, at the Universal City United Methodist Church. A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, October 21, 2016, at 10:15 AM, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
