John Hughey

November 24, 1942 — July 13, 2020

John Thomas Hughey, born on November 24, 1942 in Kansas City, MO, passed away, July 13, 2020 in New Braunfels, TX at the age of 77. John was adopted as an infant and lived on the family farm in Kansas until 1953, when the family moved to Midland, Texas. John graduated from Midland Lee High School and attended Odessa Junior College. In 1964, he transferred to Southwest Texas University in San Marcos, Texas and graduated in 1967, with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. Then started teaching at Ray D Corbett Junior High School (O’Henry) in Schertz, Texas, where he taught students for 43 years. John retired in 2010, after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.He is preceded in death by his parents Orville and Bernice Hughey. John is survived by his daughter Susan Oldcorn (Rob), grandchildren Kyle and Kaylie Oldcorn, sister, Nina Howell and two nieces, Tammy Collins and Jenny Moreira. A visitation will be held on Monday, July 20, 2020 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm at the Schertz Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any memorial donation be made to the Davis Phinney Foundation.
