John Groos

John Clarkson Groos of Garden Ridge, TX was called to be with the Lord on Friday, February 21, 2014 at the age of 70. He is preceded in death by his father Clarkson Groos and mother Lillian Clem Groos. John was born September 4, 1943 in San Antonio, TX and was a lifetime resident of the Alamo City. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Groos, his daughter Mindi Groos Payne, her husband Del Payne as well as his granddaughters, Zoe Payne, Asher Payne and Shelby Payne. He is also survived by his stepdaughter Wendy Mayclin, her husband Scott Mayclin and their daughters Katie Mayclin and Eve Mayclin. Additionally, he is survived by his stepdaughter Deborah Edens, her husband James Edens and their sons Gregory Darrel Walker and Christian Edens. John was a graduate of Texas Tech University. Retiring as an educator from Harlandale ISD, he also worked at the San Antonio Academy. John was a thoughtful and caring person as well as an excellent teacher. He was thought of highly and loved by many students. John was an active member Good Shepherd Catholic Church. He was a devoted Catholic and Eucharistic Minister. He sent to many the Verse of the Day to share his joy and belief in our heavenly Father. John was an active volunteer at Autumn Winds Nursing Home in Schertz, TX for many years. John was a lifetime member of the San Antonio Country Club. He always had a smile and assisted many through difficult times. He loved his family and friends and always put them first in his life. John loved sharing the Christmas Holidays and the joy it brought him. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. Family with receive guests Thursday, February 27, 2014,5:00 PM-8:00 PM with Rosary to be recited at 6:30PM Funeral Mass will be conducted on Friday, February 28, 2014, 1:00PM at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Schertz, TX. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, 17501 Nacogdoches Rd. in lieu of flowers please consider making donations to the American Heart Association to honor the life of John Groos.
