In Loving Memory John Silvino Gallardo May 2, 1942 " December 2, 2010 SMSgt. John S. Gallardo, USAF, Retired, passed away at the age of 68 on December 2, 2010 at his home in Schertz, Texas. He was born May 2, 1942 in Baguio City, Philippines. He joined the United States Air force at the age of 19. He served his country honorably from 1960-1982, providing outstanding military service both overseas and within the United States, during war and peacetime campaigns. John performed the duties of administrative technician, social actions technician and social actions superintendent. His active duty service included a tour in Vietnam. After retiring from military service, he went on to work at the Randolph Mental Health Clinic from 1984 to 2010. He worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor and he was also designated as a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Counselors. His dedication and service at the clinic impacted the lives of many service members and families at Randolph and the community. He was also a member of The American Legion. He is preceded in death by his father, Alfredo Gallardo, who died in the Philippines while serving in the war and his mother, Romana Gallardo and step-father, Jesus Castro, who raised John as his son, his sister, Donna Marie Castro and past relatives, Paula Bautista, Marie Sarasua, and Justino Samson. He is survived by the love of his life, Rachael Escobedo, whom he met in San Antonio, and her children, Anthony L. Escobedo and Diane R. Escobedo; daughters, Maria Hanscom and fianc, Michael Inocente, Rosalina Barnett, Louisa Rayos and husband, Perry Rayos. His adorable 10 grandchildren include Samantha, June, Christine, Thomas, Megan and Ryan Hanscom, Adam Barnett, Jessica Barnett, Ashley Krug and Rebecca Harrison. His blessed 7 great-grandchildren include Adam Sean, Adrian Scott, Angelyssa Florinda, Aiden Rene, Adio Rage and John Aaric Favella and Kielob Manuel Barnett. He had one brother, June Gallardo & wife, Cyd, who lives in San Diego, California, two sisters, Sally Muller & husband, Fritz (dec.)of Toronto, Canada and Christine Brinks & husband, Timothy who live in Wisconsin, and other relatives; nephew and Godson Kurt Muller of London, nephew, Butch Samson, aunts, Elizabeth Samson and Helen Bush & husband, Joseph and uncle, Albert Duty & wife, Gloria. A Memorial Service will be held from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM (with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:00 PM) on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Schertz Humane Society.
