John Colburn

John Gilbert Colburn, born on December 28, 1953 in Potsdam, NY, passed away on December 6, 2015 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 61. John was a loving father to his two daughters, Stefanie and Lesley. He was a fun and outgoing grandfather to his five grandchildren, and enjoyed spending time reading, shopping at Costco, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. John is preceded in death by his parents Arthur H. and Arlene G. Colburn. He is survived by his daughters Stefanie Colburn Wright (Gerald) of Cibolo, TX and Lesley Mink (Dallas) of Universal City, TX; brother, James Colburn (Ellen) of Merrimac, MA; sisters, Nancy Benz (Manley Nipe) of Ogdensburg, NY, Elizabeth Edwards (Tom) of Newfield, NY, Anne Weaver (Tom) of Dryden, NY, Christine Wells (Lee) of Ithaca, NY, Patricia Marinelli (Mauro) of Spencer, NY, and Catherine Hurysz (Tom) of Penfield, NY, grandchildren; Krystal and John Mathieu Colburn of Universal City, TX, Gabriel and Sylas Mink, of Universal City, TX, and Devin Wright of Cibolo, TX. John worked for the United States Department of Defense from 1975 until his retirement on December 31, 2014. He was a member of the United States Air Force from 1975 until 1985 when he separated as an E5 Staff Sargent. In 1985, he transitioned into a civil service position at Security Hill, Kelly Air Force Base, TX, working as an Intelligence Specialist and was later promoted to a Supervisory Intelligence Specialist; he later ended his career in Facilities Management. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, 2:00pm, at the Schertz Funeral Home.
