On Wednesday, December 7, 2016 John Paul Bishop passed away suddenly at the age of 72. John, also known as "Jack", was born in Batavia, NY on July 20, 1944 to Robert and Ruth Bishop. He lived in Batavia the early part of his life, and this is also where he met his only true love, Dorothy Bishop who passed away in 2008. In the 1980s, John moved his family to Texas where they would raise their three children. Over the years, he enjoyed traveling back to New York to see his family and friends, or attend an occasional Buffalo Bills game. John had many hobbies over the years. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing poker and working on and rebuilding cars. He always had a project of some sort to keep him busy. Upon retirement, his newfound joy came from his monthly camping excursions with his camping club, The San Antonio Trailblazers, and spending summers in Rockport with friends and family. He also liked hanging out with his friends at The Elks Club in New Braunfels, the VFW in Schertz or The Moose in Aransas Pass. Being the true Buffalo Bills fan that he was, everyone knew during football season his Sundays were spent watching football and participating in a fantasy football league. Jack's six grandchildren also made him beam with pride and joy. He was their biggest fan and loved attending their programs and sporting events. John was loved by all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. John is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and son-in-law, Victor Garza. John is survived by his son John, his wife Dawn, and their children Ryan & Lindsey; his daughter Jeanette Garza, and her children Nathan and Justin, and his daughter Julie Smith, her husband Jeff, and their children Tyler and Emily; his sister Judy Gatgens, her husband Jim; his brother Bill Bishop, his wife Eleanor. John also leaves behind extended family members in New York and Alabama. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Monday, December 12 at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
