Joel Tanner

Robert "'Joel" Tanner, 79, of Schertz, Texas, passed away suddenly on January 5th 2019 at the Val Verde Medical Center as he was preparing to be airlifted to San Antonio.

Joel was born in Port Lavaca, Texas and graduated from Calhoun County High School. He attended Victoria College then Southwest Texas State, where he obtained his Master's degree in Industrial Arts. Joel went on to teach for 34 years at schools including Victoria High, Smithson Valley Middle School, Robert Cole High School on Fort Sam Houston and an impressive 29 years at Randolph High School on Randolph AFB.

Joel was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Adelyn Tanner of Port Lavaca. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Beth (Gopffarth) Tanner; son, Carlton Tanner and wife Rhonda of Taylor, Texas; daughter, Christin Tanner and partner Mike Russell of Guerneville, California; grandsons, Ethan and Adam Tanner of Taylor, Texas; brother, Alan Tanner and wife Helen of Burnet, Texas as well as 6 nephews and nieces.

A Funeral Service will be held Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 2:00PM at Schertz Funeral Home.
