Joel D. Curran, loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather, passed away at the young age of 66 on January 7, 2017 at his home in Schertz, Texas. Born September 26, 1950, in Indianapolis, Indiana to David and Thelma Curran, he lived most of his life in Maryland, Louisiana, and Texas.Joel was an Army veteran, where he earned several medals, including the Army Commendation Medal for voluntarily risking his life. A friend to all, with a passion for helping others, he was a respected social worker for 40 years and committed to the Brooke Army Medical Center Warrior Transition Battalion at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He dedicated himself to his career as a previous veteran. In his spare time, he loved playing with his beloved dog, Bexar. He enjoyed golf, watching sports, gardening, and feeding the birds.Joel was extremely loving and proud of his family. He was predeceased by his parents David and Thelma Curran, and wife of 32 years, Janis Curran. He is survived by; sister Bonnie Kaser and husband Ron; brother Mark Curran and wife Cathy; daughter Diane Henderson and husband Josh; son David Curran; four stepchildren, Michael Burgess and his wife Micah, Mark Burgess, Michelle Alexander, and Juliet Burgess; thirteen grandchildren, Douger, Cooper, Chase, Sydney, Molly, Gabrielle, Jacob, Anna Joy, Isaac, Naomi, Levi, Zoe, and Luke; and a great grandchild, Aiden. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Schertz Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 4 P.M., with a memorial following at 5 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the following in Joel's name.
