Joe Baker
August 5, 1935 — April 6, 2013
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Joe B. Baker passed away Saturday April 6, 2013 at the age of 77. Joe is survived by wife Karen and children Jeannie Miller (James), Elizabeth Doerr (Jeff), David Baker (Kelley), and George Jody Baker (Amy). Born in Memphis TN on August 5, 1935 to parents Dwight Baker and Virginia Meads. Second child to older brother Hal Baker (Diana) and sisters Debra Baker & Sheryl Baker. Growing up in Memphis he built lifelong friendships during high school and college. Joe obtained a master degree before joining the Air Force in 1958. During career in military he had one tour in Vietnam and lived with growing family in TN, MS, TX and Spain finally retiring in 1985 in Schertz, TX. Some of his favorite times were spent surrounded by his eleven grandchildren (Katy, Connor, Justin, Emma, Kelsey, Jarrod, Shelby, Ryan, Joshua, Madeline, and Michelle). Joe enjoyed working projects with family and approached each as no project too big . He loved being on the water (boating, fishing, skiing) with family. He spent time in the garden growing vegetables and maintaining his citrus trees. A loving, caring person who would quickly volunteer his time to help anyone in need. Our husband, dad, brother, and friend will be sorely missed. He will be laid to rest in the Texas hill country among big oak trees that he loved so much. Graveside Service will be held at Hill Country Memorial Gardens on Thursday, April 11, 2013 at 2:30pm.
