Joann K. Hezel, born December 14, 1937 passed away from this life on August 30, 2016. In her final months she was surrounded by her loving family and friends. Joann was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri. She met the love of her life, John Hezel, while at nursing school and they married on June 6, 1959. They moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1969. She devoted 37 years of her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She worked full time as an RN, nights so she could be home for her kids during the day if they ever needed her. Joann was happiest when surrounded by her children and grandchildren. She was a Mega Volunteer - there are so many memories of her as a referee at swim meets, teaching Religious Education, volunteering at their schools, helping the elderly in their neighborhood. Their house was the house other kids hung out at because of her love and warmth. She taught them the importance of family, friends and serving others. Her dry wit and spunky nature was enjoyed through the final days of her life. They witnessed God's perfection in her life and death. God is Good! All the time! God is Good! She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Her memory will live on in the legacy she created. She is survived by her five children: Debbie Marbach (Kenny); Mary Martin (Dale); Diane Kruse (Jeff); Jim (Kathy) and Brad (Fiancé, Kelli); twenty grandchildren: Matthew (Leslie Anne), Josh, Zach, & Luke Marbach; Travis (Hannah), Tyler (Laura) & Kelsey Martin; Nikki (Cameron) Prather & Chad Kruse; Sarah, Ally, Dane, James, Madeline & Mary Kate Hezel; Jordyn & Kolton Hezel; one great grandchild Michael Marbach; her beloved sister, Barbara Concannon, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years John Hezel, her parents Jim and Dorothy Chapie, and her granddaughter Melissa Kruse. Very special thanks to her lifelong friends and neighbors Rudy and Caradee Henri and Pat Forbrich. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, Texas on Monday, September 5th with a Rosary at 7:00 PM.
