Joann Gelpke

JoAnn Sally Ruttle Gelpke, 81, of Schertz, passed away on Monday, September 10, 2012. Born on August 1, 1931 in Taylor, TX, she was the daughter of the late Leon Ruttle and Minnie E. Johnson Ruttle. She was also predeceased by her husband, Paul Philip Gelpke and her sister, Joyce Stubblefield. Sally was a graduate of the San Angelo High School, class of 1950, where she was a popular cheerleader. Sally held many jobs in her lifetime, including being owner/operator of the Bottle Shoppe, the former Bonanza Steak House, a ceramics business and worked at a photography studio, but her favorite job was being a devoted housewife and mother. Sally was a member of the Humane Society and was a 2012 Senior Bowling League Champion. She loved to work in her garden and was a talented artist, especially with oil paintings, she also liked to fish and was known as a doting grandmother. Sally is survived by her children, Philip Matthew Gelpke of Cibolo, TX, Julie Ellen Gelpke of Pittsburg, KS, and Kelly Ann Gelpke of Natalia, TX; grandson, Paul Matthew Gelpke of Cibolo; brother Jack Ruttle of Las Cruces, NM and sister Jane Keltner of Waco, TX. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 16, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Schertz Funeral Home.
