Joan Strojny passed away at the age of 81 in her home in San Antonio, Texas. Joan was born in Chicago, IL to Florence and Stephen Strojny. She was one of four siblings. Among other pursuits, Joan was a journalist, photographer, mother, and political activist. She enjoyed the urban life in Chicago and San Francisco, as well as the more rural settings of the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, and the Alaskan wilderness. She enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found walking the trails in and around San Antonio. She played Bridge, poker, Scrabble, and lately enjoyed Aquafit classes in addition to her walks. She was a fiery political advocate and always appreciated a lively debate.
She is survived by her three children, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two brothers. Her parents and older sister predeceased her.
There will be a memorial service at Schertz Funeral Home & Crematory, 2217 FM 3009, Schertz, TX 78154 on Sunday, March 27 at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to The Nature Conservancy, Women Deliver, or the American Heart Association.
