Jo Thurman, age 87 of Schertz, passed away on April 17, 2024. She was born to Clyde & Bernice (Driskill) Rogers on January 30, 1937, in Dawson, Alabama. Jo lived in Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Japan, and Texas. She was married to Gerald “Jerry” Thurman for 47 years. They met in Florida while he was serving in the Air Force. Jo worked at Wiederstein Elementary as a PE teacher from 1970 – 1996. She retired from Wiederstein after 30 years as a teacher in Michigan, Alabama, Florida, and Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Clyde & Bernice Rogers, her husband Jerry Thurman, her son Keith Thurman, daughter-in-law Sandra Thurman, and her brother Darwin Rogers. Jo is survived by her sons, Mark Rogers (Xochitl) of Schertz and Wayne Thurman (Michelle) of Universal City; grandchildren, Derrick Rogers (Rachael), Kyle Thurman, and Paul Thurman (Katarina); great grandchildren Sara Rogers and Averi Rogers. Her visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Schertz Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Travis Yelton officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
