Jo Stearns

Jo Ann Oakes Stearns, born on September 14, 1931 in Cotulla, Texas, died peacefully in her sleep on October 2, 2014 in Schertz, Texas, at the age of 83. She began her education at Southwestern University in Georgetown and soon found herself starting a family and raising her children. Jo Ann later continued her education at the former Southwest Texas University to become a teacher. Once she graduated, she taught in Smiley, Texas for 11 years before moving to San Antonio. There, she taught at Paige Middle School where she eventually retired. Jo Ann loved being surrounded by her family and going on outings with her dear friends, and very much enjoyed the comfort of her cat, Maggie. She loved reading, working on crossword puzzles, and feeding the wildlife that visited her patio. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Franklin Oakes Sr. and Helen Mary Lann Oakes; and her daughter, Du Ann Stearns. She is survived by her children, Nora Dixon and husband Mel, Zachary Stearns and wife Cathy, Donna Parker and husband Ricky, and Mary Gray; grandchildren, Farrah Fossett and husband Adam, Lauren Beck and husband Brandon, Du Ann Gardner and husband David, Shaunna Teuton and husband Scott, Royce Verboom and wife Natalie, Chad Verboom, Blake Verboom and wife Kasey, and Audra Stearns; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Fossett, Parker Fossett, Davis Fossett, Jacob Gardner, Emma Gardner, Ashton Teuton, Eli Teuton, Charlotte Teuton, Jenna Beck, Owen Beck, Skylar Verboom, and Arrow Verboom.
