Jimmy Cockrum

November 7, 1944 — December 24, 2020

Jimmy L. Cockrum, 71, resident of Converse, TX passed away Thursday December 24, 2020. He was born in Canyonville, Oregon on November 7, 1944 to Hubert & Beatrice Cockrum. He left his home town of Riddle, Oregon to join the Air Force and pursue new goals.

He served in the US Air Force for 24 years and made sure to experience all that the country or state had to offer in adventures. He made his way back to Texas and retired from the military and ventured into civilian life in the field of human resources at Our Lady of the Lake University followed by Farm Bureau Bank. He eventually retired retired (as he put it) to become the best Papa he could be.

He had a love of family, pets, travel, camping, and hockey where he met wonderful friends; some whom became family. He was known for his quick wit, some sarcasm, and being a caring, supportive, and devoted family man, especially to Little Pockets.

He is survived by his wife Keiko of 48 years, daughter Michelle, and grand-daughter Maya. His siblings: Paulette and husband John; Kenny and wife Ann; Danny; & Rita and husband Day. Along with some uncles, aunts, cousins, second cousins, and wonderful nieces and nephews. Those that knew him, got a chance to hear about the Cockrum brothers marrying the McCurry sisters.

In lieu of flowers, Jimmy would like to have everyone remember him. He would ask us to hold our loved ones tight and cherish life.

His place of interment will be at the National Cemetery at Fort Sam Houston.
