Jim Graves
October 22, 1938 — July 12, 2013
CMSGT Jim Graves USAF (Retired) passed away on July 12, 2013 at his home in Seguin, Texas after a lengthy illness. Jim was born October 22, 1938 to Ray and Nora Graves in Marion, Illinois. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Holly, their daughter Tracey and husband Jim Lievens, and grandson Alex all of Seguin. He is also survived by two sisters, Wanda Hill of Anna, IL and Jane Shroeder of Marion, IL and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Eva Jackson, Thelma Graves, and Barbara Madding. His 26 year USAF career included two tours of duty in Vietnam where he served as a supervisor of a medical civic action team that provided medical and dental care for Vietnamese villagers in the Mekong Delta. Among the military honors he received were three meritorious and two accommodation medals. He was most proud of the South Vietnam Medal of Honor for his humanitarian medical care. In his civilian service, Jim retired as Materials Manager from University Hospital Pharmacy Services in San Antonio. Jim loved his years as a life member of the San Antonio Livestock and Rodeo Association where he served on the Horse Show Committee. He also had a life-long passion for the game of golf and played daily before his illness. Special thanks go to Alamo Hospice for their great care during his illness. Viewing is scheduled for Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, TX. Graveside services, with full military honors, will take place at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Monday, July 22, 2013 at 11:00AM with Chaplain Chris Sitton officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Seguin, 710 N. Austin St., Seguin, TX 78155 or Alamo Hospice, San Antonio, TX.
