Jesse Barrera Jr.

Jesse Barrera, Jr., born January 11, 1966, passed away on March 5, 2017 in San Antonio, TX at the age of 51. Jesse is preceded in death by his grandparents Juan and Angelita Robles and Thomas and Felicitas Barrera. He is survived by his wife Elisa Marie Barrera; parents Jesse J Barrera Sr, and Carmen Robles Barrera; son Joshua Alexander Barrera (25), son Joseph Elijah Barrera (21), daughter Elaina Marie Barrera (18), and daughter in law Lindsay Berlanga- Barrera; sisters Veronica Justine Wolf and Michele B Mayo, and one grandchild Mackenzie Payton Barrera (6 weeks old).

In Loving Memory..

Jesse Barrera, Jr. and I met at San Pedro Church of Christ when he was 19 and I was 14. When he discovered I was only 14, he decided not to ask me on a date. He then went away to Oklahoma Christian College. Upon returning, he began attending Mac Arthur Park Church of Christ with his family. Still having friends at San Pedro, he often visited on Sunday nights. At that time I was 17 so he asked me on our first date. From that time on, it has always been the two of us. While dating we began working on the bus ministry together. We married on January 13, 1990 and were married for 27 years.

We were blessed with our first son, Joshua Alexander, on November 17, 1993. It soon became obvious that Jesse was meant to be a father. Jesse and Josh shared many things but none were more precious to Jesse than the time he spent coaching Josh's baseball team. Josh has grown into a fine, hard working husband and dad. He and his wife, Lindsay have a beautiful 6 week old baby girl, Mackenzie Payton Barrera. Jesse could not have been more excited about his first granddaughter. She blessed his life.

Our second son, Joseph Elijah was born on June 12, 1995 and came into our lives with a bang. Our precious little son had to have open heart surgery at 4 months old. Jesse stayed strong for us during all this, he worked 2 and 3 jobs at a time so I could stay home with our boys and still managed to spend as much time as possible with his family. We were attending Mac and would go back every night to lock the building together. Joey is now a 21 year old man who is generous, loving and hard working. For the past 6 months Joey and Jesse have had a standing TV line up every Tuesday and Thursday night while I was at work. This time was special to both of them.

Much to Joey's dismay, our next child was a girl. Elaina Marie was born on January 13, 1999. Jesse had always dreamed of having a daughter. She was born on our 9th and last anniversary. From then on, they were all birthaversaries! Jesse and Elaina have always had a very special bond. After Jesse became disabled, he took on the responsibility of her home schooling for a few years, strengthening that bond even more. He would always tell her that she was his "favorite daughter." Elaina is an incredibly strong young lady at 18, always ready to jump in and do whatever needed to be done. She is and always will be Jesse's favorite volleyball player.

Jesse's fight against a failing body ended with his triumph over it on March 5, 2017.
