Jerry Wooden

December 10, 1947 — October 16, 2018

Born and raised in Carmel, Indiana and graduated from Carmel High School.

Jerry chose to serve his country at the early age of 17. He retired from the United States Air Force as SMSGT with 20 years of service to his country. Some of his duty stations were Thailand and Japan. He retired while stationed at Randolph AFB, in San Antonio Texas. He received his degree from Texas Lutheran University.

In addition to his military life he retired from USAA. After retirement he worked as a consultant at the UTHSC in San Antonio.

Jerry loved hunting and fishing. He began hunting with his Uncle Roy at a very young age (according to his mother Mable, "still wearing toddler undies").

His passion for fishing gave him the opportunity to spend countless hours fishing with his sons. Fortunately his fishing passion rubbed off on his wife and step daughter. While he enjoyed fishing he had more pleasure in baiting hooks to watch us fish.

I teased Jerry that he was a country boy due to his love of bluegrass music, use of words like ‘fella' and ‘Oh Gads', who married a city girl from San Antonio, Texas. We were best friends and soul mates. We took joy in sharing and understanding stories about both of our families. We were a team of two.

Jerry had a deep love for food which caused many trips to HEB. He loved going aisle by aisle enough for me to remind him we didn't need to go down the baby aisle. Jerry made sure we didn't lack in necessities either. My sisters, Melissa and Lisa, teased Jerry that should an apocalypse occur, for survival purposes, they would crawl to our home due to the countless rolls of toilet paper, paper towels, and many various sized boxes of ziplock bags.

Jerry loved eating Thai food mostly, but his idea was we needed to have 3 full meals daily. At times he would purposely forget we had eaten to try to squeeze in another meal (smile).

In support of me he enjoyed watching the San Antonio Spurs, tennis, Dancing with the Stars, and ABC's Bachelor and Bachelorette reality shows, so long as I massaged his head or rubbed his back. But, HIS favorite shows, to name a few, were the likes of Gold Rush, Life Below Zero, Mountain Men and Swamp People.

He was a very quiet and reserved (my sister Lisa called him a man of few words), but through our marriage he allowed family to see his big heart and humor.

We were molded to fit perfectly together even though our size comparison differed. My cold feet fit perfectly into the warm calves of his legs each night or I slept holding his pinky finger.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Mable Wooden and his sister Julie Kellam. He is survived by his wife, Rosemarie Sandoval-Wooden; sons, Ronnie Wooden (Debbie), Wayne Wooden; step-son Isaac Ray Torres (Stephanie); step-daughter, Andrea Marie Galvan; granddaughters, Marissa Wooden, Lexi Wooden, Gabriella Nicole Torres and Kaylen Rae Torres; in-laws, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his beloved kitten, "Little Girl".

Our daughter told me in our loss, the greatest gift I gave my husband is his Salvation through Christ Jesus. He was open to me sharing how God worked by hearing Gods word through my online sermons and Faith. Amen.
