Jerry LaVerne Larson, 87, of Universal City, Texas passed away on Saturday, July 28, 2018. He was born in Wentworth, Missouri, on April 10, 1931. Jerry enlisted in the United States Air Force on November 1, 1951 and served his country with pride for more than 27 years. Before retirement he achieved the highest enlisted rank of Chief Master Sergeant. His service took him all over the globe. He was stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio; Loring AFB, Bangor, Maine; Lindsey Air Station in Wiesbaden, Germany; Brooks AFB, San Antonio; Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls; Tan Son Nhut Air Base, near Saigon, Vietnam; Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand; and lastly Randolph AFB, back where his service began in his beloved San Antonio, Texas.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Fannie (Smith) Larson, of Sarcoxie, Missouri; his brothers, Harlan "Pud" Larson, and Charles Larson, Jr.; and his wife of 42 wonderful years, Virginia "Ginger" Larson, his childhood sweetheart.
During those 42 years, Jerry and Ginger were members of the Universal City United Methodist Church in Universal City. They traveled abroad to study both of their family histories and wrote books about their findings. Additionally they were active with the Alamo City Historical Car Club, serving as club officers, competing, and driving the back roads in "Old Red", Jerry's 1966 Candy Apple Red Ford Galaxie 500.
He is survived by his daughters Jeri Coker, Jeanne (Doug) Bridges; step-daughter Linda (Rick) Boynton; and step-son Greg (May) Snow; his grandchildren John (Sarah) Coker, David Skrobarczyk, Connor Bridges, Brandon (Jennifer) Bridges, Brian Bridges, Steve (Tabatha) Boynton, Jason Boynton, Jacob (Joanie) Boynton, Samuel Boynton, Peter Boynton, Abigail (Mike) Overstreet, Lydia Boynton, Ruth Boynton, Bekah Boynton, Geoff (Crystal) Snow, and Scott (Mia) Snow; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 7th, at Schertz Funeral Home, 2217 F.M. 3009, Schertz, TX. Funeral services will be held the following day, Wednesday, August 8th, beginning at 9:00 a.m., also at Schertz Funeral Home. Jerry will then be buried with full military honors at 11:00 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or a charity of your choice.
