Jeffery Duffield
January 25, 1941 — March 1, 2011
Jeffery Davis Duffield of Schertz, born January 25, 1941, went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2011 after complications of long-standing health issues. Jeffs longtime journalism career began as a boy delivering the San Benito News in his hometown. He covered San Antonio politics for the Express-News and S.A. Light in the 1960s before entering the public information field. He established award-winning programs at Bexar Co. Hospital District, SAISD, Judson ISD and RAFB ISD. Jeff loved his family and home, cats, the Spurs, the Cowboys when they were winning and a good cup of coffee with the morning paper. He enjoyed books, garage sales and laughing at his own lame jokes. Jeff is survived by his wife, Linda Spurrier Duffield, after a 49-year marriage that began as a merger of student loans at Southwest Texas State in 1961. He is also survived by daughters and son-in-law Leslie and Jeff Gabelmann of Boerne and Melissa and Randy Smith of St. Charles, IL. Cherished grandchildren are Colton and Ryan Gabelmann and Madeline and Ellison Smith. Also surviving are dear brother and sister-in-law Dan and Virginia Duffield of Corpus Christi and brother-in-law Marvin Brown of San Antonio, as well as numerous other family members and friends. A celebration of Jeffs life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, March 5 at The Country Church in Marion, Bro. Butch Ikels officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to The Country Church Attic ministry or charitable organization of choice.
