Janice Carol Cherry

September 17, 1942 — October 13, 2024

San Antonio, Texas

Janice Carol (Searcy) Cherry, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend passed away at the age of 82 on October 13, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas after a long battle with Alzheimer's Dementia.

Born on September 17, 1942, to JC and Cleola Bridges Searcy, Jan grew up in a loving, close-knit family, which taught her the important values of kindness, compassion, and hard work. She was a proud graduate of the Harlandale High School class of 1960, and attended Business School in San Antonio after, to which she became a keypunch operator at City Public Service. Jan retired form H.E.B. after 21 years of service, ending as a Product Information Administrator in March of 2013.

Jan was known for her love of music, especially her love for Elvis, and could always be heard cheering for the Spurs and Cowboys. What made Jan so special was her devotion to her children and grandchildren. She was better known as Grammie by her grandchildren, and all that entered her life through them. There was not a game, concert, recital, or birthday that she missed, as she loved being a Grammie more than anything in life. She also enjoyed cooking and baking for family supper every Sunday that all were welcome to attend. When Jan wasn't spending time with her grandchildren, you could find her cruising the oceans with her 60's Sweeties from high school.

Jan is survived by her daughter, Sheri Jackson, son, Kristopher Merle and his wife, Kandice Cherry; her six grandchildren and their spouses, Neal and Velvet Jackson, Amanda Jackson, Mark and Elizabeth Jackson, Eileen and Mitchell McLeod, Kolton Cherry, and Karlee and Dominic Trevino; her great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Eli Jackson; and many cousins and friends. Jan was preceded in death by her parents.

A viewing will be held in Jan's honor Thursday, October 17, 2024, form 5:00-8:00 PM at Schertz Funeral Home in Schertz, Texas. A graveside funeral service will be held for Jan at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, Texas at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 19, 2024.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Diane Barnes for all the times she selflessly cared for Jan when she lost her independence. A very special thank you to Ashley Martinez, CNA at Stone Oak Care Center for her amazing care and compassion towards Jan, as well as the San Antonio Home Health and Hospice Company for their awesome nurses.

Jan will be fondly remembered for her generous spirit, her immense love for her family, and her commitment to making the world a brighter and better place through kindness.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association to help fight against this disease.
