James Wheatley

James Wilson Wheatley, 85, beloved husband, was called to his eternal resting place on May 6, 2023. He entered this world on October 1, 1937, in Kansas City, MO, born to James Wheatley and Rose B. Peck.

James served in the United States Air Force. He loved spending time outdoors fishing, hunting, and boating. He also enjoyed sports, especially Baseball and Basketball. He thoroughly enjoyed dancing.

James is preceded in death by his parents as well as his sister Dolores Wheatley. He is survived by his spouse Elvira C. Fletcher as well as his children, James Wheatley (Heidi), Timothy Wheatley (Dorothy), Jody W. Groves (Dave), Debra W. King (Chris), Laura Reetz, Antonio Villarreal (Karen), Virginia Gallagos (Joe Gonzales), and Belinda Hathaway (Stan Boyle). He also leaves behind his wonderful pet "Rusty Paws," numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, from 5 to 8 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM at Schertz Funeral Home.  Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Selma, Texas.  Interment will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at 11:30 AM at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery - Shelter #3.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial donations may be made in James' name to The American Cancer Society
