December 11, 1936 — October 11, 2011
James Joseph Davidson, age 74 of Schertz, went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on October 11, 2011 after a courageous four year long battle with prostate cancer. He was born on December 11, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio. He is preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Mae Davidson. James is survived by the love of his life for the past 53 years, his wife, Lucille Elizabeth Davidson; daughters, Loretta Mae and Kathleen Ann; sons, Gregory John and James Edward; brothers, Donald, Thomas, David; sisters, Lois Ann, Mary, Helen, Dorothy. His greatest pride and joy were his eight grandchildren, Brigette, Aimee, Elise, Allie, Kacie, Charlotte, Gregory and Caroline. Jim grew up in Cleveland and Euclid, Ohio. He attended John Carroll University in Ohio. He married Lucille in 1958. Jim then entered the U.S. Air Force in 1963 as a 2nd Lt. He was first assigned as a Sgt Commander in Minot, North Dakota. He was then sent to Lackland A.F.B. pushing troops at Officer Training School. Jim then went onto Vietnam (Bin Thuy). Upon returning to the states, he was sent to Denver, CO. in the AF Accounting and Finance Center. Jim then returned back to San Antonio and Randolph AFB where he was a part of the IG Inspection Team. He spent four years in Mons, Belgium, assigned to SHAPE (Live Oak). Upon his return to the states again, he was assigned to the Electronic Security CMD at Kelly AFB, where he retired in 1983 at the rank of Major after 20 years of service. During his time in San Antonio, he obtained a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling from St. Marys University. After retirement, Jim was a Counselor in the SCUC ISD and then became an At-Risk Counselor in the Marion ISD, where he was lovingly known as Mr. D . Jim also served on the SCUC School Board for 9 years. He was inducted into the Hall of Honor as a Distinguished SCUC Community Member in October of 2007. Jim enjoyed working with students and they were his primary concern during his time on the school board. Lastly, above the Air Force, teaching, counseling or serving, Jim loved his family and he will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM (with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM) on Monday, October 17, 2011 at Schertz Funeral Home.
