James Bohan

Maj James Anthony Bohan, United States Air Force (Ret.), born on July 31, 1940, passed away on November 16, 2012, at the age of 72. His Air Force career started in KI Sawyer AFB, Michigan. He was a Navigator of a B-52 in the 410 Bombardment Wing, S-12X Crew, Second Air Force, Strategic Air Command. From there he was at Laredo AFB, Laredo, TX. where he was a student pilot in the T-37 and T-38, 3640TH Pilot Training Wing. James graduated top in his class, with the UPT Flying Training Award and Academics Award. Before going to Vietnam, he did his OV-10 training at Hurlburt Field, Elgin AFB, Florida. James was a decorated pilot, earning such honors as the Air Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Service Medal/Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, the Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Combat Readiness Medal. At Randolph Air Force Base, he was an instructor pilot for the T-37 and T-38. After retiring from the Air Force, he was a simulator instructor at the Naval Air Base in Kingsville, TX. and a college professor at The University of Texas-San Antonio. James then opened his accounting practice as a Certified Public Accountant and always took yearly fishing trips to Alaska with his son, James. His parents, Walter and Louise Bohan, and his step-son, Jeffrey J. Miller, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Phyllis Jeanette Bohan; son, James Anthony Bohan and his wife, Hana; step-daughter, Sharon A. Turner; brother, Thomas W. Bohan. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM, at Schertz Funeral Home. A Graveside Service, with United States Air Force Honors, will be held at a later date.
