James Barritt

April 4, 1928 — June 15, 2009

Retired Air force TSgt, James O. Barritt, JB 007 was taken to Heaven with all of God's graces to be with his family once again. Jimmy was born in Mercer Missouri to Laurel and Uarda Barritt. He always stated how wonderful his life was on the farm with his family. Even in the Great Depression, Jimmy said their family never had problems putting food on the table. Now that meant Possum stew sometimes, but he didn't care. Jimmy loved his Ramblers. He started his service career in the Missouri AIR NATIONAL GUARD. He enlisted in the ArmyAirCorp, served there from February 1946 until February, 1949, then Jimmy moved to the Air Force until retiring at Randolph AFB in July of 1967. Jimmy served his country with tours of duty in Korea, Vietnam and Japan. After retiring at RAFB, James worked at the Base Bowling Alley, The Service Station as a mechanic and at Turbine Support as a machinist. He was a certified locksmith and Welder. He continued working around his house to keep things up and always had time to help the neighbors trim trees or other things they may have needed. One of his neighbors referred to Jimmy as "the cornerstone of the block". For many years James worked as a bagger at the RAFB Commissary. There he was referred to as "JB 007". This was part of his social contribution. He loved working at the commissary. He was going home April 7th, 2009 from working at the commissary when his accident happened. Jimmy will be remembered in many circles as the "2 dollar bill man". He loved to go to the bank and buy two thousand dollars worth at a time, then he would enjoy spending those $2 bills and the conversations they would create. He had his favorite waitress's wherever he went and love giving $2 bills for tips. He was a Republican and didn't mind arguing that point. Jimmy loved his Dog Gidget. She was his companion once his wife had passed away. Jimmy was preceded in death by his Parents, Laurel and Uarda Barritt, Brothers Johnny and Paul Barritt and Sister Dela Mae. Jimmy was a widower, Vicki K Barritt passed away 4 years ago. Mary Frances Mosley, first wife also preceded Jimmy. Son, Johnny Harris Jimmy is survived by his sons, Ronald Shane Barritt and wife Carrie, Freddie E. Harris, wife Allene and Gary Furlotte, wife Cindy. Daughter, Cathy Panarelli and husband Michael. His dedication to his family was most evident here, but by no means confined to it. Daddy, even with your passing, I will continue to make you proud, It really is very easy considering the examples you set for me. As you have done here in this life, I am sure you are getting things in order in Heaven. They are so very lucky to have you there. We love and miss you so much.
