James Baker, Sr.

April 16, 1928 — October 23, 2013

James E. Baker, Sr., formerly of Champaign, passed away on October 23, 2013 in San Antonio, Texas. Born April 16, 1928 in Champaign, Jim is survived by his wife of 65 years Norma Baker, children James E. Baker, Jr., daughter Sharon Mercer and son-in-law Kenneth Mercer all of Schertz, TX; his grandchildren, Ryan and Philip Mercer, Sandy Mercer- Ayala; four great-grandchildren, Chandler and Austin Ayala, Madison and Kash Mercer, all from Texas; sister Mary Margaret Miebach of Philo, IL and sister-in-law Lois Muesing of San Antonio, TX. Jim had many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, all of whom he treasured. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Baker and Colletta Wagner, his sister and brother-in-law Betty Lou and Jerry Shafer; brother-in-law Gene Miebach. Jim was a retired Chief Fire Inspector from the city of Champaign. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 27, 2013 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm with a rosary to be recited at 4:00pm. Funeral service will be on Monday, October 28, 2013 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 10:00am. In lieu of flowers family request donations may be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School 1605 N. Evans Rd., Selma TX 78154.
