On Sunday, April 9th 2017, Jose Irineo Gonzales Villalobos or "Pete" as he was also known, drank his last cup of hot chocolate, cracked his last pecan, and shot his last squirrel. He was 88 years old. Although his age was advanced, he was still active and vibrant. The day before he took ill, he was still driving and had planted his tomatoes to be harvested later this summer. Our family is devastated. Logically, we understand that death is a part of life and we know that time only moves forward, but we feel blindsided by this loss.
Irineo was a television repairman by trade and if you needed a television, he was the man to see! He was adventurous, loved the outdoors, and never stopped learning new things. He loved to fish, hunt, and spent most of his summers camping in New Mexico and Colorado with his wife after he retired. He could also frequently be found doing word searches and playing solitaire on his computer when he wasn't tinkering on televisions and other machines in his "cuartito". Above all, Irineo was a devoted father and loving husband for over 60 years. We will miss him dearly.
As we fumble to navigate through the uncharted territory of surviving in this world without our Patriarch, we thank every one of you for the support that you have given or will give and implore you to spend time with your loved ones, hold them close, let them know how precious they are to you, and to mend the fences that need mending.
Irineo was preceded in death by his father, Epigmeño Villalobos, his mother, Jovita Villalobos, and his daughter, Linda May Villalobos Pringle. He is survived by his beautiful, intelligent, and devoted wife, Lidia Garcia Villalobos and their children: Hilda Villalobos, Hector Hugo Villalobos and his wife Rita Mae Villalobos, Lydia Villalobos, Linda's husband Robert Wayne Pringle, Jose Irineo Villalobos, and Joey's mother, Marina Hanscom-Conger. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Laura Mercedes Villalobos, Anna Marie Gonzalez, Jerry Michael Villalobos, Alexander Ignatius Villalobos Pringle and his wife Jacci Pringle, Sonja Irene Rodriguez and her husband Jonathan Lalinde, Jose Ireneo Villalobos Jr., and Marifé Isabella Rodriguez, and his great-grandchildren Alexander Ross Gonzalez, Elizabeth Ann Gonzalez, Ariceli Josephina Moncada, Cristal Lizzette Rodriguez, Jeramiah Anthony Lalinde, Genevieve Alyssa Powell, Quinn Skylar Pringle, and Noah Ace Powell. Irineo is also survived by many others that we consider our family that knew him as "Dad" or "Grandpa" including: Shelby-Lynn Hanscom, Bridgette Hanscom, Angel Hanscom, and Sean Conger as well as all of the children that my grandmother took care of throughout the years, including several special ladies that we knew as: Leah and Andrea Tamez, Lacy Vance, and Logan Ochoa.
A Visitation will be held from 10:00AM-2:00PM on Saturday, April 15, 2017, with a Rosary being recited at 1:30PM at Schertz Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 2:00PM..
