Hugh Lovelady

Hugh Lovelady , 79, beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather, was called to his eternal resting place on February 14, 2018. He entered this world on January 29, 1939 in Rochester, MN, born to the late Dr. Sim and Mary Lovelady .
He grew up in Decatur, Alabama, was a graduate of the University of Mississippi receiving two advanced degrees and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. At Ole Miss, he met the love of his life Pattie Peace who he was married to for 55 years.
He served in the United States Air Force for 23 years and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. Concurrently and after his time in the USAF , he served his country as a civil servant working in personnel for 20 years. During his various tours of duty, he taught night classes at universities and colleges including St. Mary's University and San Antonio College.
In his retirement years, he spent time traveling on cruises with his wife Pattie all around the world. When he wasn't traveling, he adored his miniature dachshund Ruby Mae and spent time working around the house and staying connected to former colleagues.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pattie Lovelady ; son and daughter-in-law, John & Laura Lovelady , daughters, Lynn Randall and Carol Lovelady ; grandchildren, Lindsey Lovelady , Myles Rayburn, Kelsey Britain, Lizzie Randall, Kyle Randall, Lauren McVey , and Matt McVey ; great-granddaughters, Layla McVey , Caydence Thomas, and Ellie Britain; brother Larry Lovelady . He is preceded in death by his sister Becky Lovelady . He will be remembered for his dry wit, being a great listener, telling stories and most of all his love and devotion to his family. A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 19, 2018, 11:00 am at Schertz Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association or Church of the Resurrection, Episcopal on Walzem Road in San Antonio.
