She was raised in Corpus Christi (CC), Texas, and graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1954 and the University of CC in 1963. After graduating, she worked for three years at the CC Independent School District.

In 1966, she married her beloved husband, Eddie Garza, and they started a family in Houston, Texas. She balanced home, church, and school as an inspiring mother and a dedicated teacher. Devoting decades to nurturing the potential of elementary students in Houston, she earned her master’s degree in elementary education from Prairie View A&M University in 1978.

Hilda was known for her vibrant and supportive personality. She was a pillar of strength and warmth. An enthusiastic Houston sports fan, she never missed a chance to cheer for her team. Hilda cherished her time with her family and friends, enjoying vacation Bible school with her grandchildren, having "Tea" with friends, playing "Crazy 13", and attending Dorcas Circle or Women's Missionary Union gatherings.

She lived a faithful life to the Lord. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7; "Well done, good and faithful servant!" - Matthew 25:23

Hilda was an incredible and loving mother to her three sons: Tim and his wife Tracy Garza, Victor and his wife Heather Garza, and Dean and his wife Alison Garza. She was also a proud grandmother to Jacob, Andrea, Alyssa, Randi, Dylan, Jada, Emme, Mia, Ella, and Sofia, and a great-grandmother to Ayden, Theodore, Lily, Maeve, Violet, Jack, James, Georgia, and Liam. She is survived by her brother, Richardo, and his wife, Helen Guerra, as well as sisters Victoria Guerra and Elizabeth Lazo and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her parents, Deantin Oscar Sr. and Juanita C. Guerra, her brother, Deantin O. Guerra Jr., and her sister, Bertha Martinez.
