Herman Allen Dean, 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 in Schertz, Tx. He was born February 21, 1941 to Herman and Gladys (Noel) Dean in Bernalillo, New Mexico.
Herm grew up in the small towns dotted along the highways of the Southwest, sharing in many adventures with his siblings. Home was also a farm in Mississippi where he fondly recalled spending his days playing beneath the pines. At 17, Herm joined the U.S. Air Force where he began a career that would eventually span 50 years. He was a Vietnam veteran. In 1963, while stationed in Las Vegas, Nevada, he married his beautiful bride, Shirley Jean Perkins. Herm and Jeanie traveled the world with the military, raised their family, and made life-long friends. Herm loved the outdoors and would often head out before the sun with a fishing pole, a golf club, or a hunting rifle in hand. Herm could cook a mean steak and was a first rate storyteller. He had lived so many adventures in his life, he had a story for every occasion, and a friend in every city who could boast to have gone along with him on it. Dogs and children alike adored him. Herm’s kind character always made for excellent company. His strong will and smiling blue eyes will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Billie Dean Goss.
Herm is survived by; his loving wife of 59 years, Jeanie; four children, Jeffrey (Tina) Dean, Jennifer (Jimmy) Burdett, Jenice (Jeff) Evans, Jamie (John) Cannon; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris), Alyssa (Adam), Zoe, and Sophie Dean, Nicholas and John Burdett, Evie, Maya, Camilla Cannon, and Kate and Sarah Evans; great grandchildren Richie, Landon, and Amelianna; many special nieces and nephews, extended family and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to South Texas C.O.P.S. South Texas Concerns of Police Survivors (southtexascops.com) in Herm's memory.
