Herbert Kessler

Herbert Owen Kessler Sr., age 78, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Herbert was born February 8, 1938 in San Antonio and was the son of Melvin J. Sr. and Olga Ann Kessler. As the third oldest son of 8 boys, he helped raise his brothers. He served in the Navy from 1955 to 1957 as Boiler Man. After his Career in the Navy he worked at Brooks Airforce Base as Boiler Man while pursuing his bachelor's degree in business at St. Mary University where he graduated with honors. Upon graduation he continued his career at Brooks Airforce Base working as a Civil Service Personnel Manager and Union Negotiator at Brooks Air Force Base. After many years at Brooks Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, & Randolph Air Force Base he retired. After retiring he worked for Kessler Brother's Construction for 4 years before starting his own painting business. Herbert enjoyed hunting and fishing chasing Whitetail Bucks & Blue Marlins throughout his life. In his younger years, he spent a lot of time with the Hair Family (Dudley, John and Marian). September 20, 1958, Herbert married Sybil Jean Kelly and they lived in Kirby, Texas until moving to Cibolo, TX in 1984. Herbert has three sons, two granddaughters, and four great granddaughters. Herbert is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Sr. & Olga; three brothers; and two Sister in Laws: Melvin Jr, Leroy, James Sr., Doris (Nolan's wife), & Carol (Kenneth Sr.'s wife). He is survived by his wife Sybil Kessler, three sons, Christopher/Donna, Herbert Jr./Paty, & William. Granddaughters Kimberly/Keith and Jessica/Rene and four great granddaughters; Makayla, Kyleigh, Lily and Kennedy and four brothers Robert Sr./JoAnn, Daniel Sr./Judy, Kenneth Sr./Kathie, Nolan/Lilly, Lee (Leroy's wife), Judy (James wife), Emma Jo (Melvin Jr's wife). A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, May 10 th , 2016, at the Schertz Funeral Home Chapel. A Graveside Service will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:15AM.
