Henry Gutierrez, Jr.

Henry M. Gutierrez, Jr., age 71 of Schertz, TX passed away on December 24, 2015. Henry was born to Henry Y. Gutierrez, Sr. and Rosie R. Gutierrez on November 25, 1944. Henry is preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Amanda L. Gutierrez. He is survived by his daughter Adrienne C. Gutierrez and son Miguel D. Gutierrez wife Patricia Gutierrez. He was a devoted grandfather to Lorena S. Gutierrez and Miguel Enrique Gutierrez. Henry is also survived by his five siblings, Christine G. Syphers, Jerome A. Gutierrez, Minnie R. Michalski, Dolores J. Toepperwein and Mercedez A. Gutierrez as well as nine nieces and nephews. Henry graduated from Schertz- Cibolo High School and attended Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, TX through a baseball scholarship. Henry operated the family business, Gutierrez Disposal until 1985. He continued to operate in the solid waste industry for the next 30 years, most recently as Owner/President of Bexar Waste, Inc. He was well- respected and a civically engaged member of the Greater Randolph Metrocom and surrounding business communities. His passion for drag racing lead him to the ownership of Gutierrez Racing which includes the original "Jungle Jim" Lieberman Funny Car, the "Brand X" and most recently acquired "Texas Yankee" Funny Car. Henry had an unending fondness for the music and words of both Bob Dylan and Stevie Ray Vaughn. Henry also loved to spend much of his free time at his home away from home Sierra Nevada foothills as he was an avid collector of rocks and Native American artifacts. Visitation will be held from 5:00pm- 8:00pm with a rosary at 7:00pm on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. A Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Tuesday, January 5, 2015 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Schertz Public Library, 798 Schertz Parkway, Schertz TX 78154.
